The Ad Text Optimization is an optimization and insight tool made to help you break down and review your ad performance data by its components. You can also make changes in bulk to different ad components. This tool is available for both Google Ads and Microsoft Ads accounts.
Note: The Ad Text Optimization tool will not show data for the Expanded Text Ads that don't have any historical performance information yet. It considers only if they received at least 1 impression.
How does it work?
To get started, select the campaign(s), date range, network(s), and device(s) on the left-side column, and click Update.
The main header on the tool will display the different components of the ads, allowing you to switch performance view between headlines, descriptions, paths, combined paths (1/2), all the available headlines combined, or the full ads.
As with most of our tools, you'll see the column selector on the right where you can select which metrics to view. Likewise, the filters on the top left can be changed to your own needs.
Modifying Ad Text
By pressing on any of the ad components, you can modify the text within. Pressing on Update will save it as "modified" although no changes will be uploaded to Google Ads or Microsoft Ads until you review and finalize. Also, if the component you are editing is present in more than one ad, it will be edited in all of them. You can view the number of ads that component is present in by looking at the 'count' column.
Once any changes are made to the ad components, you'll see the "modified" label to its side, which will help you keep track of the changes made which are ready to upload. As you can see in the screenshot below, the modification will make changes in the 24 locations where this headline is used. You can choose to only view the modified components/ads and review them in the interface.
Find And Replace Feature
The Find and Replace feature is an incredibly useful resource for making bulk changes to your ad component texts. For example, one of the many uses would be if you wanted to modify all the ads which still have "AdWords" and replace that text for "Google Ads", or changing 2019 offers for 2020.
This feature allows you to set your own replacement parameters so that the changes are made to the right text and in the right ad component. You can also use it to create new ad copy to test variations. When replacing text in an ad, you can choose to 'replace in existing ads' or 'create new ads.' Selecting the 'create new ads' option will create new ads and replace the text you want in those.
Upload Changes from a CSV File
Once you are done, simply press on Preview and Apply Changes to upload the modified ad text to your Google Ads or Microsoft Ads account. This tool has a unique feature where you can download the changes in a CSV file and share it with the client or other stakeholders for approval. After you get approval, you can upload the CSV back to Optmyzr and then apply the changes from the tool.
To upload the new CSV file with the updated information, you’ll need to update the “Optmyzr Action” column with the text “edit” (in lower case), next to each row you’ve edited, as shown in the screenshot below. You should also write in "create" in case you have created a new ad. Additionally, this is a case-sensitive command, so the word must be in lowercase for it to work. This way the system can recognize the changes made.
You’ll see that there is a space before the “Ad Id” and “Adgroup Id” in each respective column. It’s important that this isn’t modified, to preserve the format required by the system to recognize the changes.
Note: If you download the file in CSV and modify it using Google Spreadsheets, you must make sure to change the format of the text from "Automatic" to "Plain Text" or select the option "Clear Formatting" before downloading the spreadsheet as a CSV file again. This will ensure the Ad Ids are recognized by the tool.
