What Is It?

The Create Audience Using Competitor Website feature in Optmyzr allows you to build highly targeted custom audiences using data from competitor website URLs directly from the Top Competitor Widget on the Account Dashboard.

The tool currently supports PMax, Display, and Demand Gen campaigns.

Why Should You Use It?

This feature is designed to empower PPC agencies, in-house PPC specialists, and advanced marketers to enhance their targeting strategies. By utilizing competitor website URLs, you can:

  • Gain Competitive Insights: Target high-intent users who visit competitor product pages, enabling you to stay ahead of the competition and meet client expectations for innovative targeting solutions.

  • Boost Campaign Performance: Create precise custom audiences that are more likely to convert, leading to improved Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) and lower Cost Per Acquisition (CPA).

  • Save Time: The streamlined side-tray UI simplifies the audience creation process, allowing you to efficiently manage and scale audience strategies without the hassle of going through multiple steps in the Google Ads interface.

How To Use It

1. Accessing the Audience Creation Side Tray

Navigate to the Account Dashboard in your Optmyzr account. Locate the Top Competitor Widget that displays top competitor URLs and keywords. Click on the "Create Audience" button.

2. Naming the Segment and Editing Competitor URLs

Clicking the 'Create Audience' button will open the "Audience - Custom Segments" side tray on the right side of your screen. You will see a list of existing Audiences created using Optmyzr and an option to create a new Audience.

Once you proceed to create a new Audience, the interface will resemble Google Ads, but focus on URLs, pre-filled with the top 5 competitor URLs. The audience will be automatically named, but you can edit it. You can also add or remove any of the pre-filled competitor URLs. You can add up to 100 competitor URLs.

3. Including People with Specific Interests or Behaviors (Optional)

You can include interests or search terms in your custom audience segment. This step is optional, but it allows for more precise targeting:

Interests: Enter keywords that describe your ideal customer's interests or the products and services they are actively researching to buy. For instance, you might input "Nike shoes" or "outdoor adventure gear." By adding these interests, your ads will reach individuals who have shown interest in those topics. This targeting helps ensure that your ads are seen by users who are more likely to engage with your offerings.

Search Terms: You can specify search terms that your ideal customer is using on Google. For example, you might include terms like "buy Nike shoes online" or "best outdoor gear." Ads will reach people who search for those and similar terms.

It's important to note that both interests and search terms cannot be added together in a single audience configuration, as they serve different targeting purposes and are optimized based on distinct user behaviors. A prompt will appear asking if you wish to proceed with the switch or cancel the action.

4. Linking Audiences to Campaigns

Once you add the competitor URLs, you can link the Audience to Ad Groups or Asset Groups of Performance Max (PMax), Display, or Demand Gen campaigns in bulk. These campaigns will be filtered and listed in the side tray.

Check the boxes next to the desired ad groups and asset groups you wish to associate with the audience and click on 'Next'.

Note: You can link only one Audience to PMax and Demand Gen campaigns. So, you will only see those PMax and Demand Gen campaigns in the list that do not have an Audience associated with them. You can, however, add more than one Audience to Display campaigns.

Once you click on 'Next', you will see a pop-up asking you to confirm whether or not you'd like to link the Audience to the selected ad groups and asset groups. Click on 'Create and Link Audience' to confirm.

Editing Existing Custom Audiences

If you have already created custom audiences using the Top Competitors widget in Optmyzr, you can view and edit them directly in the "Audience - Custom Segments" side tray.

Note: This is a list of only those Audiences created using the Top Competitors widget in Optmyzr. Go to the Google Ads interface for your full list of Audiences.

Click on the edit icon beside each Audience to see and edit details. You can edit the name of the Audience Segment, add or remove competitor URLs. You can also link new ad groups and asset groups to the segment.

Note: You will be able to see the ad groups and asset groups already linked to the Audience at the top of the list, but you will not be able to unlink them through Optmyzr, to avoid any unintentional issues. You can visit Google Ads to unlink ad groups and assets that are associated with the Audience.

Click on 'Next' and follow the same steps as you would when creating a new Audience.
