What Is It?

The One Word Keywords tool helps you discover keywords that are only one word in length and may be driving irrelevant traffic to your Google Ads account. It gives you the option to pause them in your Google Ads account with a single click.

How Does It Work?

The system looks at all one-word keywords present in phrase and broad match (across all network types) in your Google Ads account. It analyzes performance data like traffic, cost, conversions, and quality score for the last 30 days and shows one-word keywords that need your attention.

Why Should You Use This Tool?

Currently, it's not possible to count the number of words in a keyword in Google Ads, making it easy to miss one-word keywords that might drive unnecessary traffic to your site and increase the cost. It is important to keep a tab on such keywords and make sure they are not driving up your cost per conversion.

Tool Settings

Campaign Selection

On the left side panel, click the dropdown menu 'Select By' in order to select individual campaigns, select them by campaign type, bid strategy, campaign groups, and labels.

Filters

Select the filters according to what do you want your suggestions based on:

  • Conservative: Shows the least number of suggestions, as it requires that the keywords have more traffic associated in order to recommend them.

  • Default: Relaxes the metric thresholds and may show more suggestions than the Conservative level.

  • Aggressive: Displays the most recommendations, even suggesting to pause keywords that received impressions but no clicks.

  • Custom Filters: You can customize the metrics you want the system to consider when displaying results.

Suggestions and available actions

When you load the tool, it will automatically search for suggestions in all active campaigns, and they'll be displayed in a table, each one with their associated metrics. You can click on the column selection icon if you want to add more metrics to the table and support your decisions.

By default, all suggestions to pause will be selected, but you can deselect them according to your own criteria.

If the suggestions include keywords that are relevant for your account, you can click the 'Archive Selected' button and they won't show anymore. In order to accept the suggestions, click on 'Apply Changes to Selected Keywords' and those keywords will be paused.

Note: There must be at least one suggestion selected for the 'Apply Changes to Selected Keywords' to appear active.

You can download a CSV file with the list of keywords you want to pause or the ones you want to archive.
