I can't see suggestions in the Product Group Refresher

There are a few reasons why this may happen:

Optmyzr doesn't have the latest version of the feed
This optimization matches the shopping campaign with the version of the feed that Optmyzr last received. That is why it is important to re-sync your feed in Optmyzr before running the optimization.

The campaign is already up to date
The optimization evaluates all the ad groups but only shows those that have changes to be applied. Sometimes based on the structure of the shopping campaign, there may be no new product groups or ad groups that need to be created. This means your campaign is already in sync with your feed :-)

New products were added to the feed but the Product Group Refresher is not showing any suggestions

The reason why you're not able to see suggestions for new ad group creation can be because of the following reasons:

  1. The existing Ad Groups in your campaigns are not using a prefix that the tool can identify for suggesting the new ad groups for brands that are being added to your merchant feed.

  2. There are places where the last level of the split is for the same attribute that has received the new products. In such cases, new product group suggestions won't be given. This is because the tool never splits out the last node in the hierarchy and keeps the hierarchy consistent with the current hierarchy

For example: If you're selling shoes and have split out product groups by brands like Nike, Adidas, Puma, and Reebok, then 10 new shoe models get added to Nike in the feed, they will be under the Nike product group and don't require their own product groups.

On the other hand, if a new brand like New Balance gets added to the feed, the system will recommend creating a new product group.

In this last case you can do the following, to make sure you get recommendations:

  1. Add Prefix (Eg: Format like "AD - " i.e. "ADspacebar-spacebar") to the ad group names in the Microsoft Ads interface for Product Group Refresher to identify them.

  2. Once you have a pre-fix, you can run Shopping Campaign Builder by choosing the split (for example) - Brand > Item ID, with the ad group creation strategy set to an ad group for each Brand. You can use the "Restructure Existing Ad Groups" option in the apply window by specifying the same ad group prefix. This will create a consistent structure for your campaign throughout and retain the performance data for your product groups.

  3. Going forward, since you'll have a consistent campaign structure and ad group names with pre-fix, the Product Group Refresher will be able to give you all the suggestions for adding new ad groups and product groups.

I'm seeing an "Invalid hierarchy" error. What does it mean?

The Product Group Refresher detects the structure in which ad groups and product groups were created, and it finds all the new products that are in the feed but which don't have product groups or ad groups in the campaign. It then creates new ad groups/product groups for them. But in order for the tool to create new items, your campaign needs to have a consistent structure.

For example, if the ad group hierarchy is Category 0 > Product Type 0 > Item Id and the ad groups are split at the second level, then the Everything Else (EE) nodes should be excluded for the 1st and 2nd levels only and should be included for the 3rd or Item Id level.

To fix this issue, you can use the restructuring option in the Shopping Campaign Builder. Within the same campaign, just use the same split and same ad group creation strategy, enter the prefix for the ad group, and apply the changes.
