What is the Performance Max Placement Report?

The Performance Max Placement Report provides insights into where your ads have served for your Performance Max campaign and how many impressions they’ve received.

However, it is important to note that this report is not the same as the "Where ads showed" list under Google Ads. This is equivalent to the report in Google Ads UI - Performance Max campaigns placement found in Report Editor. (Learn more)

Strategies for Effective Optimization

Excluding placements at the account level prevents your ads from showing on specific placements across the Display Network, YouTube, Google Video Partners, or the Search Partner Network, overriding any placement targeting set at the campaign level. Therefore, it is recommended to exclude these placements by adding some additional checks, and not base the decision entirely on impressions only.

Here are a few ways you can use the Pmax Placements Report in Optmyzr -

1. Get Impressions Report:

  • Generate a PMax Placements report to analyze impression data.

  • Compare the current month's impressions with previous data to spot trends.

  • Avoid making exclusions solely based on this report, as impressions alone do not indicate poor performance. Some placements may be driving conversions for some campaign(s). Excluding placements without analyzing performance data could lead to missed opportunities.

2. Use Pre-Built Exclusion Strategies:

  • Integrate pre-built strategies to identify categories like 'kids' or 'games'.

  • Exclude identified placements at the account level using these strategies.

  • Modify these strategies as required to suit specific advertising needs.

Here are two prebuilt strategies you can use:

3. Create a Custom Strategy:

  • Utilize the Rule Engine’s external list data column to identify and suggest exclusions. You can add a list of identified Bad Placements and link that to Rule Engine using External list data - this will ensure that only the pre-identified bad placements are excluded from the account, if they show up for PMax campaigns.

  • Similarly, you can create a whitelist of approved placements to ensure key sites are never excluded.

By structuring your PMax placement optimization strategy around data-driven insights rather than relying on impression counts alone, you can ensure effective exclusions without negatively impacting performance.
