What Is It?

The Campaign Search Term scope in Rule Engine allows you to view and analyze search terms data aggregated at the campaign level. It enables direct actions on search terms, such as adding negatives, positives, or saving insights as reports, all within Optmyzr.

The scope also allows you to analyze and get suggestions for search terms at the PMax and AI Max levels. Analyzing PMax and AI Max search terms is crucial, as these campaign types often aggregate queries from diverse sources and automated targeting systems.

By surfacing and analyzing search terms at the campaign level, this Rule Engine scope allows you to take targeted actions that address poor-performing queries, highlight opportunities for positive keyword expansion, and streamline workflow through automation.

This not only reduces wasted ad spend and manual effort but also supports scalable, data-driven strategies for agencies and advertisers managing high volumes of accounts.

How Does It Work?

From the Rule Engine landing page, use the search bar or the list of scopes to find the 'Campaign Search Term' scope.

Once you select the scope, you can either use one of the prebuilt strategies or build one from scratch. Read in detail about setting up a custom strategy here.

To analyze Search Terms specifically for PMax and AI Max campaigns, select the 'Match Type' attribute while setting up the rule. Then, select an operator and select PMAx or AI Max as the value.

Actions Possible Within the Scope

Once you create your own strategy or use a pre-built strategy within the scope, you can take multiple actions. Here are the possible actions within the scope:

  • Add Negative Keywords to Campaign

  • Add to Negative Keyword List

  • Add Negative Keywords to Ad Group

  • Add Positive Keywords to Ad Group

  • Include in Report

Use Cases

One use case for the Campaign Search Term Scope in Rule Engine is optimizing Performance Max (PMax) campaigns by identifying and excluding poor-performing search terms at scale.

For example, an agency managing multiple retail accounts can automate a rule to scan all campaigns for search terms that have high spend but zero conversions over the last 30 days. Once these underperforming search terms are detected, the rule can automatically add them as negative keywords at the campaign level or to shared negative lists, ensuring the account budget is redirected towards high-performing queries.

This automation not only reduces wasted ad spend and manual effort but also helps maintain campaign profitability and enhances account health.
